Edit a Sent Quiz's Settings (Teacher)

After sending a Quiz, only some of its feature and aspects can be edited. Teachers cannot add nor remove questions but they can always edit the Quiz's title, instructions, due date, and administrative settings such as showing responses and grades when completed, point values, and locking it after the due date. Learn about (un)locking a Quiz for students.

If you have assigned a Quiz but would like to edit, add or remove a question, we recommend editing the original Quiz in your Library or making a copy of the assigned Quiz. Once you have edited a stored version in your Library, you can delete the unwanted version of your Quiz and reassign the updated version to your Class/Group. Learn more about editing an already assigned Quiz's questions.

To edit an assigned Quiz:

  1. Navigate to the Quiz's Post
  2. Click on Submissions
  3. Select Edit in the top right-hand corner > Edit This Quiz

Once you've navigated to the Quiz's editable settings, you can make limited changes such as:

  • Update the Quiz's Main Details: This includes updating its main settings such as its title, instructions, due date and time, time allotted to take the quiz, option to randomize the questions for each student, add your students' scores to Progress (Gradebook), show your students their scores upon completion and showing your students the correct answer upon completion.
  • Update the Quiz's Questions: Teachers can update the point value of each question. Additionally, the correct answer(s) for all multiple choice and multiple answer question types can be adjusted.

Note: Once a Quiz has been assigned, its questions, including the question prompt and answer choices, cannot be updated. Teachers cannot add nor remove questions from an already assigned quiz. To update an already assigned quiz, you must edit the original Quiz from your Library or make a copy of the assigned Quiz and assign the updated version. If you have assigned a Quiz and decide that you want to prohibit any students from taking the quiz beyond its due date, or reopen its submission times, you can edit the setting, Lock Quiz After Due Date.

To (Un)Lock a Quiz's Submission Setting:

  1. Navigate to the Quiz's Post
  2. Click on Submissions
  3. Select Lock  lock.png in the top right-hand corner to view a drop-down of Unlock or Lock options:
    • Unlock: Permits students to take the Quiz beyond the due date. This is helpful when you have a student who has missed class and perhaps needs to make up the Quiz.
    • Lock: Prohibits any student from submitting and taking the Quiz past the established due date.
  4. Select your desired Lock option and it will be saved automatically

Note: If you only want to prohibit only specific students from taking a Quiz, you can do so by typing a placeholder for those students' marks in your Progress (Gradebook). For example, placing “A”= Absent, “E”=Excused, “N/A”= Not Applicable in the Quiz's grade column. Keep in mind that this will prevent the students from turning in the Quiz and will not affect the grade unless a numerical value is typed in the box.
