Have Students Join Your Group (Do Not Have Edmodo Accounts)

If your students do not have an Edmodo Account, they can use your group's Group Code or Group's Join URL to sign up for a student account. See our article about Group Codes vs Join URLs to decide which you want to use, then read the appropriate section below. If the student's have email addresses, you can also send them the Join URL over email.

Note: If a student already has an account, the student can join from the existing account. Once a student has an account, all groups can be joined from there.

Using the Group Code

  • Provide students with the Group Code. If you click on your Group name, you'll find the Group Code on the top of the right column.
  • Print a PDF handout showing the Group's code and instructions for joining for both new Edmodo Students and Students who already have accounts. Learn more about the printable Group code PDF.

Have your students follow the steps below to create an account and join:

  1. Visit Edmodo.com and select the “I'm a Student” button.
  2. Fill out the registration form with the Group Code, a unique username and password. An email address is optional for student sign up.
  3. Select the “Sign up” button.

Note: The student will then see the Group you created on the left panel if an unlocked Group Code was used. If a locked Group Code is used, then you will have to approve the student's request to join your group before they are part of the group. Students can join additional groups once an account is created.

Using the Join URL

  • Provide students with the Group’s Join URL. If you click on your Group Settings, you'll find the Join URL next to the Group Code, on the bottom of the panel. If you click the green "Invite" button at the top of the right side column in your Group, you can send them the Join URL via email.

Have your students follow the steps below to create an account and join:

  1. Paste or type the Join URL into the address bar. If you sent the invitation via email, the Students can click on the link directly.
  2. Select the “I'm a Student” button on the page.
  3. Fill out the registration form with a unique username and password. An email address is not required for student sign up.
  4. Select the “Sign up” button.

Note: The student will not see the Group you created if the Join URL was used, until you approve the student's request from your account. You (the group owner) will be notified of the request and will have to approve or deny each new member before the member is in the group. Students can join more groups once an account is created.

Notes about the Group Code and the Join URL:

  • Group Codes automatically lock after 14 days of creation or resetting the code. If a locked code is used, students will end up in the approval queue and need to be approved by you.
  • Unlocked group codes will allow students to instantly join.
  • The Join URL is short and allows you to easily distribute it to students or fellow teachers.
