Using Spotlight

Is there a membership fee to participate? Is there a subscription fee?

  • At this time, there are no membership or subscription fees. It is free to participate. If you would like to purchase a resource, you can do so.

Can I remove a comment or rating?

  • No, not at this time. To flag misuse or inappropriate comments, please contact Support here with the link to the piece of content.

How do I follow a tag or teacher? How does that help me?

  • Following tags will help us better recommend resources to you based on your interests. When viewing a resource, hover over the tags and click the “Follow” button that appears. You can also click “Follow” below the resource creator’s name, which will allow you to view future items they upload in the “Recently added” section of your Spotlight homepage.

How can I search on Spotlight?

  • Enter a keyword in the search bar at the top of the Spotlight homepage or use the drop-down menus at the top of the page to sort resources by grade level, content area, and price.

I live outside the U.S. Can I sell, buy, and download resources on Spotlight?

  • Yes! To sell resources, you will need to have a Paypal account set up so you can receive payments. You’ll be able to buy resources by either using a credit card or a Paypal account. Note: Prices and payments are in U.S. dollars.

How many items do you want me to upload? Is there a minimum or maximum?

  • As many as you want! There is no minimum or maximum. If you upload 10 or more original resources, you will gain automatic access to the Luminary Program (stay tuned for more information on this upcoming program).

Is there any benefit to using Spotlight for the school I work for?

  • If several teachers in a school use Spotlight, it can become your depository for sharing all school-specific resources. We hope this sharing space will help your school or district to quickly discover and share new resources. We also believe that if teachers in your school use Spotlight, they are extending their ideas and networks.

Who has access to the content on Spotlight?

  • Spotlight content may be viewed by anyone, not just Edmodo users. However, to upload content or download paid resources, you must be logged into your Edmodo account.

Is Spotlight supposed to be only for free resources, or can I sell something?

  • Spotlight is a combination of both free and paid resources. The beauty of Spotlight is that it is up to you what type of content you seek, share, and collect.

How can I better organize my content or curate larger collections into folders?

  • We hope Spotlight will become your one-stop repository for all your favorite content. Currently, you can create and curate collections for different themes or units. This collection will house all your resource “cards”. In the future, these collections will integrate with other Edmodo features (i.e. your Library), and you will be able to make the collections public if you wish.

Can I upload multiple files to a Spotlight resource?

  • Yes! If your Spotlight resource consists of more than one file (ex: a PDF and a PowerPoint that go together), you can add the files to a folder on your computer and compress the folder into a .zip file. You'll then be able to upload that .zip file to your Spotlight resource.
  • Here's some helpful information about how to create a .zip file:
    • On a Mac:
      • Add the various files for your resource into a folder on your computer.
      • Highlight the folder.
      • Click "File" in the top menu bar on your computer and select "Compress."
    • On a PC:
      • Add the various files for your resource into a folder on your computer.
      • Right-click on the folder.
      • Select "Send to" and choose "Compressed (zipped) folder."
